Our Mission
The Wilderness Lodge is a retreat, education and connection resource for children in foster care and their foster families. While we currently host events out of churches and event venues, we plan to have a space in Cullman that has a retreat-like atmosphere to carry out this important ministry work.
Our overall mission is to show the love of Jesus and do what He has commanded us which is to Love Him and Love People.
Upcoming Events
Kids Night Out
During these quarterly events, we host foster children as well as their biological children for food, fun, encouragement, and support. We typically begin the evening with pizza and then rotate from station to station providing bible stories, activities, crafts, music, bible games and snacks.
These events give our foster parents a break from parenting and allows them to focus a little on their marriage relationship.
Foster Parent Appreciation Banquet
Prior to Spring 2025, the Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner in Cullman County had not been held for a few years. By reimplementing the event, foster parents were able to sit down to a nice dinner, listen to an inspirational speaker and know that child care would be covered by our team of volunteers. We want foster parents in our area to know that they are loved and appreciated.
Summer Camp
Our goal is to sponsor a two-day camp for foster children and the biological children of their foster parents. This is still in the planning stages. We have approached a group that is experienced in this type of camp and have asked them to consider providing leadership for a camp for Cullman County children in foster care. We would be recruiting volunteers and raising support for both days. More information to come.
Where We’re Located
While there is no permanent meeting space for The Wilderness Lodge at this time, we are grateful for local churches (especially Northbrook) allowing us to use their facilities to create an event space for kids that evokes the adventure, fun and relaxation kids enjoy.
We are actively seeking support to fund an administrative office space to provide support services including new-to-care bags, school supplies, and other necessities to support foster families. If you or someone you know is interested in helping establish this space, we encourage you to reach out to us!
